Donna Whittington
I hold a BA with Honours in Creative and Therapeutic Art and am currently pursuing an MA in Arts Practice, focusing on Art, Health and Wellbeing. I am a textile artist specializing in 3D stumpwork embroidery and artisan crafts. Additionally, with 15 years of experience working with children aged 4 to 16 with various physical, emotional, social and learning needs, I have a strong background in facilitating collaborative community projects to enrich wellbeing and ignite community connectivity. In particular workshops and interventions for adults dealing with social, emotional and rehabilitative challenges.
My creative energy and vision emerge from nurturing, kindness and positivity. Since early childhood, I have been surrounded by generations of traditional Welsh arts and crafts many of my skills were initially learnt from the significant, talented women in my family.
One generation passing on their legacy of skills to the next whilst recounting amusing stories sharing any difficulties and challenges of the day. I strive to impart this social fusion of togetherness and understanding into my practice.
I relish working with various interesting, sensory-stimulating textiles and mediums. I enjoy bringing art to life and creating haptic pieces that have a functional purpose that can be physically touched and experienced. Many elements are inspired by nature's strength, beauty and power.
